Mooncups

Mooncups are the environmentally friendly, and money saving, replacements for tampons and towels. They are designed to be reused time and time again, so saving money and the environment. Instead of buying, then throwing away thousands of tampons or towels per year you simply use one mooncup.

The mooncup is around 50cm long, although they usually come in two sizes. Worn internally, like a tampon, the cup collects fluid instead of absorbing it as tampon and towels do. They hold 30ml of fluid which is about one third of the average amount of fluid produced during each period. When inserted a light seal is formed with the vaginal wall, which allows the fluid to flow into the mooncup, and prevents fluid or odour escaping.

Although not every woman will want to try these, if you do, you will soon see the benefits. Once you have tried a few “practice runs” you will see just how easy to use and comfortable they are. Once they are correctly inserted they are extremely comfortable and you may forget they are there. Mooncups can be used during many sports such as swimming, and also for travelling and even when sleeping.

Made from special medical grade non-allergic silicone means they will not cause irritation and can be used by women with sensitive skin, allergies and thrush. They do not contain any deodorisers, bleach or absorbing gels. To clean them you either sterilise them in baby sterilising solution or put in boiling water for five minutes.
